Finally!!! JAMB Result Now Valid For 3 Years – Senate Announces
JAMB Result will now be valid for 3 years if the Nigerian Senate has its way. Report reaching us has it that the senate has passed a resolution which stipulates that the registration fee for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by JAMB yearly will henceforth stand at Two Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (2,500) as against the current Five Thousand six hundred and fifty Naira (5,650)

Other resolutions reached include that the validity of the UTME Result be extended to three academic sessions and that other JAMB services like the change of Course and institution be made free. This followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on the inquiry into the new JAMB admission policy.
The senators also resolved to amend the JAMB Act to reflect the new resolutions.
The question now is; will JAMB be willing to comply with these resolutions? So while we commend the senate for these resolutions, we equally urge them to ensure that JAMB implement them because that’s what truly matters. Especially will Nigerian students appreciate it, if the results of the UTME lasts up to 3 years.

JUST IN: JAMB Reduces Questions to 180, Exam Hours to 2HRS

    11:00:00 0
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has reduced number of questions and time required to sit for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
JAMB reduced exam time and questions
As from 2017, candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would spend two hours instead of three hours, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Wednesday.
JAMB examination on the Use of English previously had 100 questions but has now been reduced to 60 questions, while the other three subjects now has 40 questions each, making a total of 180 questions.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, announced the changes in Kaduna during the commencement of a strategic planning retreat on monitoring, supervision and evaluation of 2017 UTME with the theme, ‘Inclusiveness and sensitisation of key external actors.’
According to him, the reduction in hours was in line with international standards and best practices where candidates are required to sit for an examination such as UTME for not more than two hours.
He said JAMB has also made some changes in the use of computer for the test.
“From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode, we have noted the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse. This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode. In order to ensure equity and level playing field for all candidates taking the UTME, JAMB has designed a system that will allow candidates to use only eight keys without the use of the mouse.
“All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A,B,C,D for responses(answer) to questions and keys: P = Previous question, N = Next question, S = Submit responses when candidate has finished examination R = Reverse (do not intend to go further to submit again).”
JAMB also said special privileges would be accorded to blind candidates in the UTME, including “the transportation and accommodation of every blind candidate and one guide.”

JAMB Removed 4 State-Owned Institutions in Osun

    08:21:00 0
Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB delisted four state-owned tertiary institutions in Osun State on the request of the state government. Over 50,000 students offered admission into the four institutions might forfeit their admissions. Ogbeni (Governor of the State of Osun) ordered the four institutions to advertise admission for vocational and remedial studies.
Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, Governor of the State of Osun
Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, Governor of the State of Osun
Four tertiary institutions owned by Osun State Government have been delisted from its Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website.  They were said to be delisted for next two academic sessions on the request of the state government over plans to restructure them.
The institutions are Osun state Polytechnic Iree, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, and Osun state College of Education, Ilesa.
The President of OSPOLY Alumni, Iree who is spokesperson of the alumni bodies, Mrs. Mobola Odebode said state government had written to JAMB to delist the affected institutions for the next two years in order to give way for its proposed restructuring of the institutions.
Odebobe who was flanked by other alumni Presidents said the state government has refused to listen to the voice of reasoning on the rumoured merger of the four tertiary institutions stressing that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is trying to obliterate polytechnic education in the state.
She said that most of the affected admission seekers to these institutions had been offered provision admission for 2015/2016 academic sessions but were surprised to find out that their potential schools are no longer on the JAMB portals.
Her words: “It is painful that despite pleas from traditional rulers, host communities, political parties, students, market women, Alumni Associations and well meaning Nigerians, the government has refused to listen to he voice of reasoning on the matter. As products of institutions, we had resolved to continue the struggle to protect the existence of these institutions.
”Part of the frustrations we envisaged is already manifesting. It is before the public knowledge that the state government, last week sacked over 250 workers in Osun state Colleges of Education, Ila Orangun and Ilesa. These institutions already lack academic and non academic staff for the past five years.
”Also, over 50,000 students who applied to the four state owned tertiary institutions through Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will be denied admission as the government has written to the admission body to delist these four institutions for the next two years. This means that none of the affect state-owned institutions is on the list of JAMB.”
Odebode also disclosed that Osun state government had ordered the four institutions to advertise admission for vocational and remedial studies thus querying the government on why polytechnic should lay the role that a technical college could play more effectively.
She said “It is rather ironical that at a period that China is converting universities to polytechnics to advance the technological education as a key for the growth AF development of the country, the state of Osun government is trying to obliterate polytechnic education.
“We are so confident that the government wants to destroy the whole system for their private business benefits. We are fully aware of correspondences between some private institutions approaching the affected institutions to divert their admitted students to their various schools,” Odebode added.
The alumni body however condemned the alleged dismissal of the over 250 workers and demanded for their reinstatement.
The associations also demanded that the state government withdraw the letter written to JAMB to allow admission to the affected institutions ad allow candidates who have been offered provisional admission to continue their programmes.

JUST IN: Post UTME Scrapped By FG – Minister of Education

    18:00:00 0
JUST IN: Post UTME Scrapped By FG – Minister of Education
JUST IN: Post UTME Scrapped By FG – Minister of Education
The Federal Government Thursday scrapped the conduct of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution.
The government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.
Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this on Thursday in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.
Adamu, expressed confidence in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), adding that there was no need for other examination to be conducted by universities after JAMB.
He said: “As far as I am concerned the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing. The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB let them bring it and then we address it.
“If JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission.”
The Minister also asked the JAMB to stop extra charges on several categories of changes on admissions such as the change of course, change of school andothers.
Meanwhile, the JAMB has pegged the cut – off mark for admission for 2016 at 180.
The 180 benchmark, applies to all universities and higher institutions in the country, including polytechnics, colleges of education, and others.
JAMB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, after a long debate with delegates from various institutions, told journalists that no institution would go below the 180 cut-off set by the board.
He said: “180 is given, no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know University of Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also UI. All these ones stand but 180 as bench mark for others.
“This year we have more than enough candidates, we have over 1.5 million candidates so we will get enough candidates to take in all the schools if they are serious. Re-distribution is already ongoing, because it is embedded in the registration procedure.”
