FUT MINNA STUDENTS SHOCKED AS SCHOOL RESUMES 2 DAYS AFTER THE END OF FIRST SEMESTER EXAM

16:21:00 0
Senate Building of Federal University of Technology, Minna

Following the just completed first semester examination, most students hurried back to their various homes to spend some time with their loved ones before the commencement of the second semester only to realize that the break was far shorter than they imagined.

Right from the beginning of the semester, most students were already informed of the school's activities and resumption for the second semester which happened to be on the 8th of July, 2019, but considering the inability of the school to meet of with the proposed calendar during the first semester due to the ongoing ASUU strike at the time, they felt that the break was going to be extended to probably two to three weeks. This thought however, did not work out as the school management stuck to the calendar earlier prepared. The break only lasted for a day. This was quite different from how it was normally done as everyone had earlier expected.

The 100 level students who just got into the system and probably didn't go home for the Easter and Sallah break due to the distance did not at all find this interesting especially since they've not seen their loved ones for quite a while. and would probably not want to go home as that would mean spending a lot of money on transportation.

Some students who saw no need for them to go home either due to the distance, or some other reason best know to them had to stay back and find something to engage them while the lecture is yet to commence.

Though, the second semester has commenced, activities such as lectures is yet to commence as everyone (both those at home and in school) wait patiently for news on when lecture will begin.

“We have had an extensive session, looking at all the issues."
”In view of this, the government has promised to reach us as soon as possible with a written proposal on those areas we need further consultations. And when we receive that, we shall treat accordingly and get back to the appropriate quarters,” Prof Biodun Ogunyemi Said

ASUU PROMISES TO CALL OFF THE ONGOING STRIKE SOON

20:07:00 0

In an interview with the press men, the president of the academic staff union, prof. Biodun Ogunyemi stated that after their meeting, they will conclude when the ASUU strike will be called off.

He told the news men that they would be having a meeting soon. He also went on to say that they will let Nigerians know of their outcome (their conclusion from the meeting).

It's been over  two weeks since they embarked on the industrial action, demanding the government to fulfill a promise they made in 2009, in the quest of resolving the ongoing strike as at that time and everyone (especially the new students) is worried as to when the strike would be called off. The questions everyone is asking is whether or not the strike will be called off before January 2019 or students can still go back to school this year.

The exact duration of the strike is not known at the moment and will only be certain after the meeting, if all things play well as the president of ASUU had stated.
