IAUE cash award for overall best graduating student
The overall best graduating student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education will receive the sum of one million naira as cash award every year.
This was the decision reached at the sixth Senate meeting which held at the postgraduate hall of the university.

He encouraged Deans and Head of departments to also give cash award to best graduating students in their faculties and departments and to assist brilliant students with financial constraints, a view shared by Professor Lawanson Briggs.
Professor Ndimele commended departments with such consistent practice in existence and urged others to emulate them.
He informed the house that the Head of Library and Information Science department, Dr Anthonia Eghieso Omehia has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new Demonstration School about to take off at the St John’s Campus of the university.
Cases of application for deferment and suspension of studies by students were brought forward and considered while the 2015/2016 B.Ed final year results were approved and departments yet to submit theirs were asked to ensure that they were ready within the shortest possible time to enable the students embark on their National Youth Service programme.
Senate listened to reports on cases of examination malpractice by the committee headed by the Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science, Professor Kemka Humphrey Ogbonda and upheld the decision to expel and rusticate students found guilty to serve as deterrent to others. Some cases were stepped down for lack of evidence while another was set free but with a reprimand.
The Dean of Postgraduate school, Professor Daniel Ndubuisi Ogum in his brief, intimated Senate members of a workshop organized to boost capacity and of places identified and to be designated as halls for postgraduate lectures to safeguard the postgraduate hall currently being used for teaching and learning.
He said that the postgraduate board would meet to consider all recommendations for the Masters and Doctorate degree programmes and that Monday, April 10, 2017 has been fixed as date for the commencement of lectures for that category of students.
The Senate meeting was adjourned with an emergency Senate meeting scheduled for Wednesday April 12, 2017 to review and approve results from departments yet to submit theirs.

World Speech Day harnesses the wisdom of crowds to uncover remarkable ideas from unexpected voices around the world. The emphasis is on ‘‘unexpected voices.’’
‘‘Given that most of us tend to think of Great Speeches as being delivered by well-established Western authors – be they toga-clad Roman senators or faces later to be hewn into Mount Rushmore – this choice (of unexpected voices around the world) is an intriguing choice,’’ says Sam Leith.

One voice can change everything. And small voices add up. In the USA, March 15, 2016, was designated by the US Senate as “National Speech and Debate Education Day”. There’s a time when silent is not golden.

FG set to establish postgraduate college for Nurses in Nigeria

23:23:00 0
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has urged the Federal Government to establish a national post graduate college for nurses in order to enhance the training of high-level manpower in the profession.
The National President of NANNM, Mr. Abdrafiu Adeniji, said this in Osogbo on Sunday during a briefing at the end of the sixth Quadrennial National Delegate Conference of the association.
Adeniji said that the establishment of the college would impact positively on the quality of health delivery in the country, adding that government should expedite action on the establishment of the school.
He said, “Our association has requested the establishment of the school we call the National Post Graduate College of Nursing.
“We have made the request to the Federal Ministry of Health and the idea has been accepted. It has been referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for consideration and appropriate processing.
“If the college is established, the manpower and human resources development needed for health and nursing will be complemented and upgraded to a better status.”

He said the association would ensure the implementation of the approval given to graduates of nursing sciences for internship.
He also urged the government to provide adequate equipment and infrastructure in health institutions to ensure the proper training of nurses and midwives.
Adeniji said, “Lack of infrastructure and working tools in the health sector should be addressed because almost all the health institutions in the country lack adequate infrastructural and functional equipment. The implication is that qualified health professionals do not have the necessary equipment to work with.
“We implore the government not to pay lip service to the development of our health institutions but ensure that our institutions are adequately equipped and that health professionals manning them especially nurses and midwives are adequately remunerated.”
