The management at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa State, has revealed its plans to host 27 girls from Chibok out of the 58 that escaped, preparing them for university.
Speaking to Leadership, the president of AUN, Dr Margee Ensign has disclosed that the institution has trained 10,000 young people, elderly people, vulnerable people and women entrepreneurs on information technology and literacy, through its Adamawa Peace Initiative formed in 2012.
“So, we were building this programme when the IDPs started to come into Yola. At the height of the insurgency, we were feeding every week 276,263 people. So, for 18 months, that is all we did and now, we are able to get back to some other important projects and the really important one is that we have begun reconciliation efforts.”
During the 16th graduation ceremony of Global International College in Abuja, Dr Margee Ensign noted that the school as a developmental university has students from America, the United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Ghana, South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
Ensign told the graduating students that for them to put their achievement into perspective, “We must see in you the leaders of the Nigeria of tomorrow; a Nigeria which, in 30 years, will be the third most populous nation on earth, after India and China. The boys and girls of today will be the men and women of tomorrow. What a responsibility will be on your shoulders.”
Speaking on the theme, “Your decisions plus your actions produce results, “she said.
