UMYU registration closing date
This is to inform all returning and fresh undergraduate students of the  Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina that the management of the institution has announced the registration deadline for the 2016/2017 academic session.
In view of the above, all students are advised to ensure that they complete all registration formalities on or before 28th February, 2017.
Failure to register will be deemed as voluntary withdrawal from the University.

 UMYU English Immersion Programme Admission
Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, Katsina State, Nigeria hereby announces the introduction of its one session intensive English Language Immersion Programme for candidates from non-English speaking and other countries as from the 2016/2017 academic year. The Programme is aimed at providing a solid grounding for non-English speakers and other members of the non-English speaking public wishing to improve on their knowledge of English in order to facilitate their contact and interaction with Anglophone environment for academic, business and other purposes.

UMYU ENGLISH IMMERSION PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY.

The Programme is open to holders of the baccalaureat certificate in the Francophone education system or its equivalents in other education systems. However, candidates with lower qualifications but with appreciable knowledge of English and capable of benefiting from the Immersion Programme are eligible for admission into the English Language Immersion Programme

OTHER INFO ABOUT UMYU ENGLISH IMMERSION PROGRAMME.

Duration of Programme
The English Immersion Programme of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University will run for one session of seven months divided into two semesters.
Examination and Certification
Each semester will terminate with an end-of-semester examination, which will be preceded by continuous assessment exercises. All participants will be issued Attestation of Attendance while students successful in the examinations will be issued certificate indicating the level of their performance.
Accommodation
All students enrolled in the Immersion Programme will be accommodated in the students’ hostels of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. Students wishing to make their own accommodation arrangements will be free to do so. Students accommodated in students’ hostels will be expected to maintain maximum level of cleanliness and to handle hostel facilities with care as any students found to be involved in careless use of facilities will be barred from the hostels. The hostel fees is charged N15, 000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira Only)
Fees
Each student will be expected to pay N65, 000 (Sixty Five Thousand Naira), to cover tuition, accommodation. Medical and books fees. Prospective students are expected to settle the fees in full through the University Account before the commencement of the Programme. Government-sponsored students are also required to comply with this requirement. Fees once paid ARE NOT REFUNDABLE.
Immigration Requirements
All students are required to enter Nigeria with valid travel documents (international or ECOWAS passport including the Yellow Card) and declare same at the appropriate entry point. Additionally, all foreign students will have to be identified by their respective Embassies in Nigeria before they can be admitted into the English Immersion Programme of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.

UMYU Postgraduate Form
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following full-time Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Ph.D programmes of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina for the 2016/2017 academic session commencing in March, 2017.

UMYU POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

Postgraduate Diploma
he following shall qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma admission:
  1. Graduates of recognized Universities;
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 3.00) on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in relevant areas;
  3. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) without Education obtained at credit level with a three years relevant postgraduate experience;
  4. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
  5. Candidates with third class degree in areas other than Education can be considered after three years relevant postgraduate experience. Those in the Education may be considered in their area of specialization;
  6. All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.
Master’s Degree
he following shall qualify for the Master’s Degree Programmes: –
  1. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelors degree with at least Second-Class Honors (CGPA 3.00) on a 5 point scale. Candidates with Second-Class Lower who do not make up CGPA of 3.00 must possess a Postgraduate Diploma from a recognized institution with at least a credit level pass (CGPA 3.50) in relevant areas.
  2. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
The following shall qualify for Professional Masters’ degree admission:
  1. Candidates who possess Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a lower credit pass (CGPA 3.00) at a scale of 5 and at least a credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma (CGPA 3.50) of a recognized Institution;
  2. Candidates with any Bachelor’s degree in Third Class division who have at least five years relevant working experience.
.MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil)
The following shall qualify for Master of Philosophy admission: –
  1. Graduates of Universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale shall be required to register for M.Phil/Ph.D and must score a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale to proceed for Ph.d in the proposed area.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
The following shall qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy admission:
  1. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree with CGPA of 3.50 in the appropriate proposed areas of study;
  2. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained Masters of Philosophy degree with CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale to proceed for Ph.D in the appropriate proposed areas of study;
  3. Candidates must possess at least a Bachelors degree in Second Class lower division (CGPA 3.00) on a 5 point scale;
  4. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University;
  5. Candidate must state the proposed area of Research and submit a synopsis of not less than 500 words of the proposed topic of research.
Matriculation Requirement:
In addition to the requirements above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements i.e five credit passes at the O’level to include English and Mathematics.
Selection Process:
All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.

Authorities of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, School of Pre-Degree and Remedial Studies, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the university pre-degree programme for the 2015/2016 academic session.

UMYU Pre-Degree Programmes & Requirements.
The courses offered in the programme are:
Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

i. Candidates applying for Pre-Degree Programme must possess at least three (3) Credits in Science subjects and any two passes at ‘O’ level in the other subjects offered in the school.
1. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics;
2. Biology, Chemistry, Physics;
3. Biology, Physics, Mathematics;
4. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics.
ii. Candidates admitted for the Pre-Degree Studies must register and pass at credit level the WAEC, NABTEB or NECO in the subjects they are deficient.
iii. Candidates must also register for the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtain the minimum pass mark approved by JAMB and must choose Umaru Musa Yar’adua University as their 1 st choice.
iv. The Pre-Degree and Remedial Studies Programme’s duration is two semesters.

Interested candidates are required to follow the procedures below:
i. Log on to www.umyu.edu.ng and download the application form;

UMYU Postgraduate Admission Requirements.

Postgraduate Diploma
The following shall qualify for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma   Programmes:-
(i) Graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) or other recognized Universities.
(ii) Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of lower credit pass or its equivalent in relevant areas.
(iii) Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
(iv) Candidates must satisfy the University’s requirements for matriculation i.e. five credit passes at the O’level to include English Language and Mathematics.
Master’s Degree
The following shall qualify for the Master’s Degree Programmes: –
(i) Graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Bachelor with at least Second-Class Honours (CGPA 3.00) or its equivalent, or candidates with University degree and appropriate Postgraduate Diploma of UMYU or any recognized University with at least a credit level pass.
(ii) Candidates whose degrees are unclassified should score an average of “C” or 50% or above.
(iii) Candidates with only Bachelors degree in third class division who have at least five years relevant working experience. This shall be applicable to MRD only.
(iv) Candidate who possess HND with at least a credit pass from recognized institutions and at least credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma of UMYU or any other recognized institution in the relevant areas. This shall be applicable to MRD only.
(v) Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
(vi)  In addition to (i) – (v) above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s requirements for matriculation i.e. five credit passes at the O’level to include English Language and Mathematics.
(vii)Also candidates seeking admission into the M.A, M.Ed. and M.Sc. programmes shall sit an entrance examination to be conducted by the University.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
The following shall qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy Programmes: –
(i) Graduates of UMYU and other recognized universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale or a CGPA of 3.00 on a 4 point scale appropriate to the proposed areas of study.(ii) Candidates with the Degree of Professional Masters with at least a Bachelor’s Degree may qualify for admission provided that they satisfy the condition in (i) above.
(iii) Graduates of UMYU or other recognized Universities who have obtained Masters of Philosophy degree appropriate to the proposed areas of study.
(iv) In addition to (i), (ii) and (iii) above candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Second Class Lower division (CGPA 3.00).
(v) Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
(vi) In addition to (i) – (v) above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s requirements for matriculation i.e. five credit passes at the O’level to include English Language and Mathematics.
(vii) In addition to (i) – (vi) above, a candidate must submit a copy of his/her MA/MSc thesis as part of the requirement for admission.
(viii) A candidate must state the proposed area of Research and submit a synopsis of not less than 500 words for the proposed topic of research.
