At a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU; Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU; and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, said the unions will begin a “total and comprehensive indefinite” strike due to the federal government’s alleged failure to fulfil a 2009 agreement with the unions.

“Having cleared from our members and got a direction from them, we hereby announce that the JAC of NAAT, NASU and SSANU has directed its members to embark on a comprehensive, total and indefinite strike, effective from Monday, September 11, 2017.

SSANU STRIKE: 2000 Sacked Staff To Be Reinstated

SSANU STRIKE: 2000 Sacked Staff To Be Reinstated. The Federal Government is considering reversing its decision to sack workers of universities’ staff schools.
A memo was sent to vice chancellors around the country to put a stop to adding a few university staff on payroll, claiming that they can no longerbear the cost of running staff schools. This directive has affected 2000 staff, but TheNation reports has revealed that they might be recalled.
In response to the memo, the members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities went on an indefinite strike saying that the directive was a contravention of the 2009 agreement between the government and the union.
The government is reportedly considering calling back the staff with the aim of ending the strike.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu was said to have invited the union leaders to a meeting on Sunday in Abuja to deliberate on how to end the strike.
