Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST produced 7 first class out of 5,155 graduating students.
Seven students of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) will be graduating with first class honours degrees as the university holds its 27th convocation ceremonies for its 5155 graduating students.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Barineme Fakae disclosed this at a pressbriefing with journalists in Port Harcourt.
Fakae said the first class graduates were selected based on merit, pointing out that the institution has successfully implemented an on-line examinations system which was introduced to remove irregularities and difficulties associated with manual examinations.
The vice-chancellor also said the university had announced the appointment of three emeritus professors after a four months thorough on-line assessment and approval of the institution’s senate.
According to him, “Our online processes have removed examination malpractices and corruption because we now run a cashless university and students’ statistics are known even by their parents.”
He further disclosed that 445 graduates who bag higher degrees in various disciplines would also convoke at the event this weekend.
Fakae gave a breakdown of the 445 higher degrees as follows: MSC Law, 50; Education, 25; Philosophy, 26; Science, 35; Technical and Sciences, 35; MBA, 41; PGD, 203 and PHD, 26.
Describing RSUST as the foremost state e-varsity in the country, the Vice Chancellor said the introduction of ICT in the university has changed the way the business of education is conducted there.
Fakae said he has raised the standard of the university since he took charge seven years ago, despite challenges, adding that RSUST now runs a paperless e-Senate with biometric accreditation of its members for the purposes of recording attendance.
