The Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, on Friday,
matriculated 5,210 students at its 23rd matriculation ceremony,
the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Charity
Angya, disclosed this in her address at the ceremony in Makurdi.
Angya said the fresh men were selected out of 7,457 candidates
who sat for the last Unified Tertiary and Matriculation
Examination (UTME) and the 3,343 Direct Entry candidates
that applied.
She said that matriculation ceremonies marked the formal
admission of candidates into the university.
The professor advised the students to pay attention to their
studies and shun vices.
Angya stressed that the university management had put in place
security measures to check improper dressing, cultism, drug abuse
and examination misconduct.
She said that the institution had a responsibility to train the
students in both character and learning.
She urged the students to be wary of those they interact with, so
that they would not be negatively influenced by people of
questionable character.
The vice chancellor promised a conducive learning environment
for the students and appealed to parents and public-spirited
individuals to assist the university.
He said the institution was in need of more classrooms, lecture
theatres, offices and hostel accommodation. (NAN)
