Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the institution as UNIBEN Admits Over 10,000 New Students, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, stated that the huge number of applicants into the institution on yearly basis is to due to the academic strides of the institution.

NILS is the capacity building organ of the National Assembly; it was established by an Act of Parliament. It works to support and strengthen the legislature in the pursuit of the ideals of democracy through research, training, legislative support, advocacy and networking.

UNIBEN Turns Out 64 Student First Class Graduates.

University of Benin, UNIBEN will graduate not fewer than 6,000 first degree students in its 41st convocation ceremony. Out of that number, 64 are graduating with first class degrees.

The management of the University of Benin on Monday said that no fewer than 64 graduands of the university would be awarded with first class degrees at its 41st  convocation and Founder’s Day ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, said that 11,020 persons would be awarded various diplomas and degrees of the university during the convocation.
He said that aside the first class category, 1,671 would graduate in second class upper division, and 4,346 in second class lower, adding that 1, 014 made third class and three persons with pass result.
Orunwense said that the institution would also award 268 Diplomas, 541 Post Graduate Diplomas, 2, 212 Masters Degrees and 382 Doctorates.
He said that the ceremonies would also feature the formal installation of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, as the 9th Chancellor of the institution.
He also disclosed that honorary degrees would be conferred on two distinguished Nigerians, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase and Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie, for their contributions to nation building.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) postgraduate programmes admission for the 2015/2016 academic session. The postgraduate programmes lead to the award of Postgraduate Diploma, Masters degree and Ph.D in the various Faculties/Schools/Institutes of the University of Benin.

 UNIBEN Postgraduate Programmes General Admission Requirements.

  I.          A Candidate for postgraduate studies in the university of Benin must have   obtained at least five (5) credits in WASC, NECO, GCE (ordinary level or their equivalents,) A credit pass in Maths and English is required.   
II.          Four credits of Ordinary level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB or Advance level passes.
III.          A holder of a Pass (Degree/Diploma) is not qualified for admission into the    postgraduate programme of the University of Benin. In addition, all holders of 3rd class degree must possess PGD to be considered for admission into the Masters programmes.
IV.          Candidates who obtained Masters degree but with Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55.0-59% can only be considered for admission into the M.Phil programme in the first instance.
V.          A candidate applying for the Ph.D in any programme of the University of Benin must have obtained a weighted average score of 60% or letter grade ‘B’ average in the Masters degree.
VI.          A candidate applying for the PhD with a Master’s degree from any other University who in his/her Master’s study has not previously taken the compulsory courses or their equivalents similar to the ones in the University of Benin shall on admission be required to offer and pass such courses with a minimum of 60% or letter grade ‘B’.

Transcripts

      Candidates should request their former Universities/Institutions to forward their academic transcript(s) to the “Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies”, to reach him not later than 8 weeks from the date of this publication.
Applications of candidates whose transcripts are not forwarded to the school shall not be processed.
Referees Reports
      Candidates should request their referees to mail reports on them directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies.  Applications shall not be processed unless the referee reports are available.

The Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering (CoE), University of Benin is a collaborative effort between the University and Industry Partners and Stakeholders.
THE PROGRAMMES AND DISTINCTIVENESS
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Postgraduate programmes by the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering:
Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation Studies (Geology or Geophysics Option)
and
Integrated Petroleum Engineering and Production Studies
These programmes are aimed at developing skilled professional graduates in key areas of Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering including exploration, appraisal, development, production and value creation required in the Oil and Gas sector.
At the point of graduation, they would have acquired the requisite skills to make them function effectively in the oil and gas industry as young professionals. The training programmes offered at the Centre ensure that the graduates are well equipped with knowledge of up-to-date concepts and skills, current technologies and methods, and have the ability to adapt to new demands in a dynamic and technologically driven world of the oil and gas industry.
In addition, the programmes offer leadership training to make the graduates functional and productive in the multi-dimensional work place environment. Significant emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary approach necessary for solving subsurface problems in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering. The programmes will be executed with strong links to industry both in the content and delivery modes.
TARGET STUDENTS
The programmes are intended for highly motivated graduates wishing to pursue professional careers in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, including practising professionals currently employed in the Exploration and Production industry as well as Geosciences Agencies and Consulting firms or organizations.
DURATION
The programmes will be offered on full-time basis for a full period of 18 calendar months which includes a mandatory six months internship in an Exploration &Production Company or other Geosciences Organizations and Agencies geared towards executing a practical research project.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applications are invited from interested candidates as well as staff of corporate organizations and relevant agencies.
Chargeable fees for the programmes are competitive and comparable with the quality of learning delivered. Funding may be available to qualified outstanding candidates. Interested applicants are advised to apply for external sponsorships.
Intended Applicants must possess either of the following: •First degree from recognized Universities in Geology, Geophysics or Petroleum Engineering, with a minimum CGPA of 4.0.
  • First degree in any other relevant fields in Physical Sciences or Engineering with a minimum CGPA of 4.0.
  • Young professionals of Exploration & Production Companies, Geosciences Agencies & Organizations and Consulting Companies with the appropriate degree.

The University of Benin, Benin City, has a Centre for Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This Centre, runs a two-year Full-Time Diploma in Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The course has adequate professional and academic content, to produce manpower for the promotion of staff proficiency, capacity building and performance in the Sea Ports, Shipping, Oil and ICT sectors of the economy for middle and top management positions.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Full-Time Two-Year Diploma in Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
COURSE BENEFITS
  • Graduates from the Centre shall acquire both academic and practical knowledge to be employed directly into Sea Ports, Shipping, Oil, Custom Services, and other Agencies in maritime and ICT industries.
  • Programme would also serve as capacity building for the academic and professional enhancement of persons with innate maritime culture and tradition.
LECTURE PERIODS
Lectures shall take place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 2.00 and 6.00pm.
INDUSTRAL TRAINING
Students must undertake and pass a three-month industrial training period between the first and second years of the programme.

University of Benin, UNIBEN post UTME practice questions and answers platform (computer based) is now live – for 2015/2016 academic session. The platform can be accessed from anywhere you have access to the internet.

This is to inform all the future UNIBENites that the authorities of the university have set up a platform where they can practice for the 2015/2016 academic session post UTME screening exercise.

UNIBEN CBT practice online platform – This is a Practice test on Computer Based Test which is open to the general public. It is an exposure to the use of CBT for common entrance screening tests and all other computer based examinations.
Application is welcomed from interested candidates. Candidates are advised to have a valid e-mail account before starting the application process.

How to Apply for UNIBEN CBT Practice Platform.

The procedure for the 2015/2016 UNIBEN CBT Practice Test application is as follows:

3.         Click on Register for application at the top left of the display page to proceed

4.         Enter your Surname, First Name and Other Name as it is written on the JAMB Registration slip and your JAMB Registration number.

6.         On the application page, click on ‘Login’ (top right of front page)

7.         Enter your Username and the password to login.

8.         To start the application process, please click on ‘Application record’, provide all required information and upload your passport photograph.

9.         Upload a RECENT and CLEAR “1×1” COLOUR PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH WITH RED BACKGROUND IN JPEG FORMAT ONLY.

II.          Four credits of Ordinary level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB or Advance level passes.
III.          A holder of a Pass (Degree/Diploma) is not qualified for admission into the    postgraduate programme of the University of Benin. In addition, all holders of 3rd class degree must possess PGD to be considered for admission into the Masters programmes.
IV.          Candidates who obtained Masters degree but with Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55.0-59% can only be considered for admission into the M.Phil programme in the first instance.
V.          A candidate applying for the Ph.D in any programme of the University of Benin must have obtained a weighted average score of 60% or letter grade ‘B’ average in the Masters degree.
VI.          A candidate applying for the PhD with a Master’s degree from any other University who in his/her Master’s study has not previously taken the compulsory courses or their equivalents similar to the ones in the University of Benin shall on admission be required to offer and pass such courses with a minimum of 60% or letter grade ‘B’.

Transcripts

      Candidates should request their former Universities/Institutions to forward their academic transcript(s) to the “Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies”, to reach him not later than 8 weeks from the date of this publication.
Applications of candidates whose transcripts are not forwarded to the school shall not be processed.
Referees Reports
      Candidates should request their referees to mail reports on them directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies.  Applications shall not be processed unless the referee reports are available.

UNIBEN JUPEB Admission
Applications are invited  from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme for 2015/2016 Session.

UNIBEN – JUPEB Admission Requirements.

Candidates seeking admission into the JUBEP Foundation Programmes must possess minimum of 5 credit passes in at least five (5) subjects at “O” Level, including English language and Mathematics at not more than 2 sittings in the GCE, SSCE (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB).

DURATION OF PROGRAMME:
The duration of the study is a minimum of one Academic Session of TWO SEMESTERS. It is strictly non-residential programme.

MODE OF STUDY:
Face to face contact at the University of Benin or other designated venues. Lectures will be conducted from 3pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday.

UNIBEN – JUPEB Admission Method of Application.

Interested candidates should pay a non-refundable application fee of fifteen thousand naira (N15,000.00) through E- Transact Payment Platform at any branch of the following banks: First Bank, Wema Bank nationwide. The fee excludes bank charges. Candidates making payment are to obtain a Pin Transaction Receipt which should contain a Pin Code. With the PIN CODE, Log on to University of Benin Website: www.uniben.edu. and click on the Foundation Programme Link to complete the application form online and upload a recent coloured passport size photograph (scanned, not more than 3 months old passport) with red background. Webcam photograph is not acceptable. Submit the online application form and print out a copy of the examination schedule slip which should have your user name and password.

Note:
(i)           Fill your Bio-Data correctly as no complaint about wrong bio-data will be entertained after submission.
(ii)          Candidates who upload wrong bio-data will be disqualified and forfeit admission fee.
(iii)        Only coloured print out will be accepted.
(iv)        Print at least 4 copies of the University of Benin online registration form with complete passport size photograph printed in colour.
(v)         Bring the same passport size photograph used for the online registration to the screening exercise and for registration after offer of admission.
(vi)        All candidates are required to use valid e-mail addresses and Telephone numbers.
(vii)      Candidates are to follow the application instructions very carefully and ensure they select the subject combinations relevant to their course of study.

Entrance Examination:
The Entrance Examination into the Foundation Programme will hold at the University of Benin on a date to be scheduled as appropriate.

About & Description of JUPEB Programme.

Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Certificate enables candidates to gain Direct Entry Admission into 200 level of the degrees offered by the University of Benin and other JUPEB – affiliated Universities in Nigeria and universities abroad. The JUPEB Certificate is equivalent to the Advance Level GCE or the Old Higher School Certificate (HSC) or IJMB.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION:

Each candidate admitted into the programme will be exposed to an intensive academic work in three subject combinations relevant to their desired field of study. The subjects are broken into four courses labeled 001, 002, 003 & 004 with each candidate taking six courses per semester making a total of twelve courses at the end of the programme. In addition, candidates will also take at least two general studies courses (one per semester). Each course will be examined at the end of each semester but the results in all the courses taken will be merged at the end of the second semester to obtain a letter grade in each subject (i.e. A, B, C, D, E & F). The general studies to be chosen by each candidate will be based on general courses relevant to the field of study.

For admission into the University of Benin and other JUPEB affiliate institutions, each candidate, in addition to passing the prescribed JUPEB examination for issuing the Direct Entry Certificates, must satisfy all admission requirements prescribed by departments and faculties of choice.
