GSK MSc Scholarships 2018
Three scholarships are offered to support the training and development of the next generation of leaders in global health, and strengthen the capacity of health systems and health-related research in Africa.

These highly competitive scholarships are available to applicants intending to study on a one-year, full-time, London-based MSc programme at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Award Details

Each scholarship will cover
  • Tuition fees, including any mandatory field trip fees, and
  • A tax-free stipend (living allowance) of GBP16, 750.00.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must
  • Be nationals of, and resident in, countries in sub-Saharan Africa; and
  • Intend to return to sub-Saharan Africa on completion of their MSc year at the School; and
  • confirm in writing that they would not otherwise be able to pay for the proposed programme of study; and
  • Meet the School’s minimum English language requirements; and
  • Hold a first degree at either a first or upper second class equivalency level, and
  • Hold an offer of admission for 2018-19 for one of the School’s 18 London-based MSc programmes of study.
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate (in their application documentation) the potential to make significant contributions to public health and/or health-related research in Africa.

How to Apply

Applicants should complete both steps below by the scholarship deadline.
  • Step 1: Submit an application for 2018-19 for a London-based MSc programme of study, as per instructions under the ‘How to Apply’ tab on the relevant programme of study page. Applicants should ensure that all necessary supplementary documents (including references) are submitted via the School’s Admissions Portal by the scholarship deadline.
  • Step 2: Submit an online scholarships application, selecting this scholarship option from the drop-down menu. A completed Supplementary Questions Form for this scholarship must be uploaded as part of this application. This is the only attachment required in Step 2 (as applicants should have already submitted references; transcripts; a CV etc with their application for study).
If you encounter any technical difficulties whilst using the online application system please contact LSHTM IT by email, providing them with your full name; the scholarship that you are applying for; and the issue that you have encountered. Please attach a screen shot of the difficulty.

Application notes

  • Applicants who have already submitted a completed 2018-19 London-based MSc application and/or have been made an Offer of Admission should apply for the scholarship by completing the scholarship application (Step 2 above) and submitting this by the scholarship deadline.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered for this funding. Incomplete applications include those with missing supplementary documentation at either/both Steps 1 and 2 above. Both the application to study and the scholarship application must be complete by the scholarship deadline.
  • If you have a deferred offer of admission from the 2017-18 cycle you do not need to resubmit your application to study at the school. You will need to submit a scholarships application.
  • These scholarships are open to applicants for any of the 18 non-distance learning programmes offered by the School (including our joint programmes: MSc Global Mental Health; MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing; MSc One Health; MSc Veterinary Epidemiology). Please note that for the following programmes you will be directed to the joint provider to complete your application to study as the School does not administer the admissions for these courses: MSc Global Mental Health; MSc One Health; MSc Veterinary Epidemiology.

University of Geneva Excellence Master Fellowship Program 2018
The Faculty of science of the University of Geneva is an internationally top-ranked scientific institution covering a broad range of scientific disciplines: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth Sciences,

Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physics. It has a strong focus on research and hosts three National Centres of Competence in Research of the highly competitive Swiss National Science Foundation (Chemical Biology; SwissMAP; Planets) and many European collaborative research projects. The Masters of the Faculty of Science constitute an ideal entry for high-level professional and academic careers.
The Faculty of Science, in collaboration with several sponsors, has established an Excellence Fellowship Program to support outstanding and highly motivated candidates who intend to pursue a Master of Science in any of the disciplines covered by the Faculty1. Admission criteria can be consulted on the relevant Master Web pages2. French proficiency is not a formal requirement for the Masters of the Faculty of science.

Fellowship Requirements

  • Application for an Excellence Fellowship is open to students from any university with very good performance in their studies (belonging to the best 10% of their bachelor’s program) and that has completed the Bachelor degree or expects to complete it within 6 months3.
  • Selection of the applicants will be based on excellence.
  • Evaluation will be made on the basis of the documentation sent by the applicants.
The application (in English or French) consists of:
  • Application Form(60 Kb, )
  • A Curriculum Vita including the transcript of exams passed during the bachelor education, with grades.
  • A two-page essay in which the applicant describes his/her specific scientific interests, specifies the Master’s program at the Faculty of Science he/her would like to pursue, and motivates the intention to pursue a Master of Science programme at the University of Geneva.
  • If possible: Letters of references from two professors (preferably sent by them directly to the e-mail address indicated below). They should specifically attest if the candidate fulfills the conditions of the Excellence Fellowship Program (see above).
  • Any other pertinent information like results of GRE (General requirement examination), of TOEFL or other language test.

Benefits

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10’000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties); it is awarded for one year and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s programme (three or four semesters) provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of his/her first semester of studies.

Mode of Application

Next application deadline is 15 March 2018 (for Masters starting September 17, 2018). Applications should be sent as an UNIQUE pdf file by e-mail to the Dean of the Faculty of Science: Excellence-Master-Sciences@unige.ch
For the application to be considered, each student has to fulfill the enrollment procedure as described on the Admissions Office website.

About the Award: The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) announces its first Postgraduate Scholarship programme for Nigerians. The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity for qualifying students from any state and the federal capital territory to acquire a Master’s Degree in
courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry, with specific focus on Geotechnical Engineering and Hydrography at renowned universities in the United Kingdom.
SNEPCo, in partnership with three universities, namely the University of Birmingham, Newcastle University and University of Plymouth, will award three (3) scholarships for one year M.Sc, studies for the academic year commencing September 2017.

Type: Postgraduate (Masters) degree
Eligibility: To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:
  • Display intellectual ability and leadership potential
  • Meet the University’s English language requirements (usually at least 65 in IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 in each element, or a minimum of C6 grade in English Language in SSCE (WAEC/NECO), or equivalent TOEFL, score valid for Sept 2017 admission)
  • Be aged below 28 years by 30/09/2017
  • Possess a university degree equivalent to a UK Second Class Upper (Honours Degree) at a minimum Not hove studied previously in the UK or any other developed country
  • Have a valid Nigerian passport valid to December, 2018
  • Be neither current nor former employees (who have left employment less than 5 years before) of SPDC, the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies or the Nigerian Consultant;
  • Not be a spouse, child or ward of staff of Shell Companies in Nigeria or the Nigerian Consultant
  • Be of Nigerian nationality (proof of this will be required)
  • Currently reside in Nigeria
  • Be prepared to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study.
Value of Scholarship: The scholarship will cover full tuition fees, one return flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK and a contribution towards living expenses only.
Duration of Scholarship: One year

  • Submit application for admission to the any of the prospective universities for any of the above qualifying courses
  • Application forms for the scholarship will ONLY be available through the websites of the participating universities following an offer of admission.
