Authorities of the the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, invite application from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Postgraduate Programmes of the university for the 2016/2017 academic session.

RSUST  POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

Applicants with the qualifications in the underlisted categories shall be eligible for admission into the postgraduate programmes; however, candidates must also fulfill the matriculation requirements of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Orowomkwo, Port Harcourt.
A. Postgraduate Diploma
1. Holders of at least a Third Class Degree in the subject area applied for or a Second Class (Lower Division) degree in a related discipline, obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and technology or any other recognized institution .
2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least lower credit classification or its equivalent in a related discipline, obtained from a recognized institution.
3. For Faculty of Engineering, candidates must be holders of at least a Third Class or Pass degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution.
4. Candidates for PGD in the Department of Electrical Engineering must be holders of a B.Sc. or B.Tech. degree in Electrical or computer Engineering; Physics with Electronics or Computer Science.
B. Master’s Degree programmes
1. Candidates seeking admission into the Full-time/Part-time Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in the relevant discipline.
2.Candidates who holds PGD, PGDE, PGDTE in the relevant discipline or an equivalent Diploma (in Maritime Transport, Marine Engineering or Nautical Studies, Master Mariner, Marine Engineers Class 1) with CGPA of 3.50 or above (on a five-point grade system) may apply for the Master’s Programmes.
3. Candidates for MSc in Surveying and Geomatics must be holders of B.Sc/B.Tech in Surveying and Geomatics degree with at least 2nd Class Lower Division or equivalent from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other approved University;
4. Candidates for the M.Ed. degree programmes offered in the Faculty of Technical and Science Education/Institute of Education should possess a good Bachelor’s degree (not lower than Second Class Lower Division) in a relevant teaching subject.
C. Doctor of Philosophy Programmes
A candidate for a PhD programme shall:
1. Possess a Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 or above, on a five-point grade system, in a relevant discipline, obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other recognized institution of higher learning of equivalent status.
2. Candidates for PhD in Surveying and Geomatics must have an M.Sc in Surveying and Geomatics degree with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 60% weighted average from Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other institution of equivalent
status.
3. Present himself or herself for a qualifying interview, if need be.
No person shall be admitted to a programme unless his/her application has been approved by the Postgraduate School Board on behalf of Senate and on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Committee.
Note: In addition to the conditions above, a candidate may be required to present himself/herself for a selection test and/or oral interview.

RSUST  POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION – DURATION.

  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programmes run for two semesters (minimum) and four semesters (maximum) with or without project writing.
  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Engineering runs for a duration of four semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum) with project.
  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Transport Planning and Logistics and Supply Chain Planning runs for three semesters (minimum) and four semesters (maximum).
  • The part-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for four semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme with dissertation is structured to last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme with dissertation in Faculty of Engineering is structured to last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for three semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum).
  • The part-time Master’s degree programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for four semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme in Transport Planning and Logistics and Supply Chain Planning will run for four semesters (minimum) and five semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes with thesis runs for six semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).
  • The part-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for eight semesters (minimum) and ten semesters (maximum).
  • Part-time study, specifically to be undertaken at weekends only, is available for the programmes in Shipping Management and Maritime Transport Technology for six semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).
  • Part-time study in Faculty of Engineering is available for PhD programmes only and runs for ten semesters (minimum) and twelve semesters (maximum).
  • Unless otherwise stated, part-time studies in any Faculty, where it is available, will take twice the duration allowed for the corresponding full-time programmes. Such part- time PhD programmes will last for ten semesters (minimum) and twelve semesters (maximum).
  • The sandwich Postgraduate Diploma programmes in Education run for a minimum duration of two long vacations and a maximum of four long vacations.
  • The sandwich Master’s programmes with dissertation in Education run for a minimum duration of three long vacations and maximum of six long vacations.
  • The sandwich Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes with thesis in Education run for a minimum duration of six long vacations and a maximum of twelve long vacations.

RSUST  POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION – METHOD OF APPLICATION.

Applications for admission to any postgraduate programme shall be made on-line by logging onto www.ust.edu.ngand making an e-payment of thirty thousand naira (N30,000.00) only, using interswitch verve – enabled cards. Application forms should be completed on-line, downloaded and hard copies submitted to the Secretary, Postgraduate School along with the following:
  1. Photocopies of Certificates.
  2. Certified academic transcripts. (It is the responsibility of applicants to ensure that copies of their academic transcripts are forwarded under confidential cover directly to The Secretary, Postgraduate School, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt).
  3. Letter of reference from three referees, including one from a previous academic institution, stating that applicant is qualified to undertake advanced studies and research and that he (the Referee) is confident that the applicant will benefit from the training.
For PhD applicants, brief research proposals on their intended areas of study should also accompany the application forms.
The deadline for submission of applications on-line and at the Postgraduate School is 29th July, 2016.

RSUST MATRICULATION EXAMINATION PROGRAMME – DURATION & MODE OF STUDY.

The programme is for duration of two semesters (one academic session). Mode of study is face to face at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.
ADMISSION
Applicants for admission into the Programme are expected to have a minimum of five O’Level Credits at one or two sittings including English Language; Credits in Mathematics and three other Science subjects in the SSCE/GCE organized by
WAEC and NECO. Candidates MUST write the 2016/2017 JAMB/UTME with relevant subject combination to any programme and MUST obtain the minimum UTME approved cut-off point. Candidates who want to study Engineering must obtain O’Level Credit grades in Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and Physics and sit for Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics at the 2016/2017 JAMB/UTME. Candidates for Environmental Sciences must obtain the relevant five O’Level Credits required for their intended programmes.

HOW TO APPLY FOR RSUST MATRICULATION EXAMINATION PROGRAMME ADMISSION.

Candidates are to visit the RSUST website www.ust.edu.ng and follow the link for the 2016/2017 MEP Application. Application Forms to be completed online after a payment of N15,000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira only) application fee. A candidate who is offered admission will be expected to bring his/her Local Government Identification Letter and SSCE/GCE certificates/result slips during registration.

RSUST PART-TIME ADMISSION – ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.

Holders of WASC, SSCE, NECO, or GCE O/L with five (5) relevant credit level passes must include English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings and who must in addition, satisfy the Departmental requirements are eligible to apply. Prospective candidates are also advised in their own interest to obtain information guide on departmental entry requirements from the Secretary, Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). Candidates with higher qualifications such as NCE (Credit Level Pass), OND/ND (Upper Credit Level Classification) or HND are eligible for direct entry admissions or placement on Advanced Standing, provided that such candidates also satisfy the general requirement for admission.

The Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST post UTME screening exercise application form for the 2016/2017 academic session is out.

CANDIDATES QUALIFIED FOR RSUST POST UTME.

  1. The screening exercise for admission of candidates will be administered only on candidates who chose RSUST and have received notification to that effect from JAMB.
  2. Only candidates who scored 180 and above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are qualified for the screening exercise in all the Faculties  of the University.
  3. Candidates must possess the basic five (5) O’ level credit passes in accordance   with the University’s Entry Requirements (Faculty/Departmental) before applying for the screening exercise. It is mandatory that Candidates should upload their O ‘Level results and a scanned copy of their passport photograph. However, candidates who are awaiting their O’level results may apply but should so indicate.

RSUST POST UTME REGISTRATION PROCEDURE.

Candidates are expected to register for the screening exercise On-line by logging onto ust.edu.ng and making e-payment of Seven Thousand (N7, 000.00) Naira only, using Interswitch Verve enabled cards or using the Pay Direct Bank Branch option, comprising One Thousand (N1, 000.00) Naira Application fee, Four Thousand, five Hundred (N4, 500.00)Naira Test Fee, One Thousand, five Hundred (N1, 500.00) Naira for Computer Demonstration Exercise.
Candidates are to note that the mode of screening exercise is ELECTRONIC and SUBJECTIVE. It is important that candidates practice how to use the computer especially the use of mouse and keyboard before they turn up for the screening exercise. In addition, the Information Technology Centre (ITC) may be conducting a 1-week demonstration session for candidates prior to the date of  the screening exercise.

“The Vice-Chancellor shall in accordance with Section 9(2) of the law establishing the University have the general function in addition to other functions conferred on him by the law or otherwise of directing the activities of the University, and shall, to the exclusion of any other person or authority, be the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and Chairman of the Senate”.

RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY VC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS.

The candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a good University education and should be a proven, experienced and successful manager of human and material resources.
Specifically, the candidate shall be expected to:
  • Be a person of impeccable character, who is honest and against whom no serious allegation of fraud or dishonesty has been made; who is impartial, objective, firm, resourceful, dynamic, innovative and free from ethnic and group interests, and should possess a robust health  and demonstrate good public relations;
  • Be a Professor of at least 7 years post-professorial experience in a reputable University inside or outside Nigeria;
  • Possess considerable managerial experience in University administration and should be a
  • Be not more than 65 years at the time of

RSUST VICE CHANCELLOR – CONDITIONS OF SERVICE.

Remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities, and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Council.

HOW TO APPLY AS RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY VC.

Interested candidates who meet the above conditions should submit their applications, twenty (20) copies, accompanied by twenty (20) copies of the candidate’s detailed curriculum vitae duly signed and  dated.  The  curriculum vitae must include the candidate’s name in full, place and date of birth, marital status, number and ages of children, nationality, academic qualifications, teaching, research, administrative and managerial experiences, academic distinction, membership of academic and professional bodies, scholarly publications, names and addresses of three (3) referees and other relevant information.
Candidate should submit a statement of his/her vision for the University for the next seven years (20 copies).
